Spiti Valley Expedition Guide

About the Route

This 11-day itinerary follows the classic "Kinnaur-Spiti Loop." Starting from Shimla, you gradually ascend through the diverse landscapes of Kinnaur Valley (Kalpa, Chitkul) before entering the high-altitude cold desert of Spiti (Kaza). The return journey via Kunzum Pass and Atal Tunnel completes the circuit at Manali.

Acclimatization & Altitude

Traveling from Shimla allows for gradual acclimatization, reducing the risk of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Kaza sits at 3,800m, so it is essential to stay hydrated. Our itinerary includes night halts at transitional altitudes like Kalpa to ensure a comfortable journey.

Best Time to Visit

The Shimla to Kaza route is best traveled between May and October when the roads are clear of snow. Chandertal Lake is typically accessible from June to September. Winter expeditions (White Spiti) require 4x4 vehicles and distinct preparation.
